Missing Summer Days
During these cold winter days, it’s hard not to find myself reminiscing about the sun-drenched days of summer. Summer on Vancouver Island is a special time. The warmth, the laughter, and the community events that make the season so special. One event stands out: Boogie Boots Crawling Baby Race at Comox Nautical Days. I hope you enjoy watching this video of last year’s participants as they make their way to their loving parents at the finish line.
The first-ever Crawling Baby Race in 2024 was an absolute blast. My sister had the idea for Boogie Boots to plan and organise one right in the heart of Comox during the beloved Nautical Days festival. It brought together families from all over, eager to witness the most adorable competition of the year. Picture it: babies, decked out in their cutest outfits and Crawlers shoes by Boogie Boots, lined up at the starting line. The excitement in the air was contagious as parents, grandparents, and onlookers cheered their little ones on.
The race itself was a hilarious spectacle, with babies wiggling, crawling, and getting distracted by a stray toy or a curious face in the crowd. Some were quite happy to sit and watch, while others found it a tad overwhelming. While some little racers crossed the finish line at lightning speed, others took their sweet time—some only reaching the finish after a few curious detours. We had one that decided crawling was for babies and stood up to walk across the finish line! All participants received a pair of Crawlers, and the three fastest babies won gift certificates to local kids stores here in the Comox Valley.
The spirit of community was alive and well that day, as families celebrated together, making memories that would last a lifetime. From the cheering crowd to the proud parents beaming from the side-lines, the Crawling Baby Race felt like the perfect blend of summer fun and family connection. Not a single shoe fell off! Which was my intention behind the unique design of Crawlers. They are practical yet stylish shoes that allow a full range of motion so babies can crawl and explore in comfort.
The Crawling Baby Race is the newest highlight of Comox Nautical Days, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds in 2025. See you there? I know I’ll be cheering on those little racers once again!
